The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is rated one of the best one day walks in the world. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing provides the opportunity to experience some of the most truly breathtaking views and scenery of the Tongariro National Park World Heritage area. The 18.5km crossing starts by winding up Mangatepopo valley to the saddle between Tongariro and Ngauruhoe. It climbs to Red Crater (1886m) then descends down to the spectacular Emerald lakes. After passing blue lake the crossing descends around the northern side of Tongariro, and descends in a zigzag to the finish at the Ketetahi Hut.

After a long day on your feet walking this magnificent Alpine Crossing, why not finish off the day with a relaxing spa bath at the Colonial Lodge Motel on the Taupo Lakefront. Or have a relaxing & comfortable sleep at the Colonial the night before the the crossing. All of this can be arranged !! We have a package at the Colonial Lodge Motel that includes your room for two people in a studio ( queen & single bed) plus pick up from the Colonial on the morning of the crossing (very early!) and pick up from the end of the crossing and taken back to Taupo.
